About Bittensor

Bittensor pays for useful machine-learning work: subnets compete at a task, validators score the miners, and TAO is emitted to whoever scores well. The monetary policy is copied from Bitcoin β€” 21 million cap, emission halving roughly every four years β€” which is unusual for an AI-adjacent token and gives it a much tighter supply story than most. Delegating TAO to a validator is how holders earn a share of that emission without running infrastructure.

Transaction costs on the Bittensor chain are small; the real cost of participating is the hardware and model quality needed to earn emissions.

TAO is one of the highest-beta assets in the market, moving on AI news and on subnet emission changes, with drawdowns to match.

Frequently asked questions

οΌ‹How many TAO are there?

9.6 million TAO were in circulation as of 5 August 2026, against a maximum of 21 million β€” so 45.7% of everything that will ever exist has already been issued, leaving 11.4 million still to come. That is a large share still to arrive, and it is worth knowing on what schedule before treating the current price as the settled one.

οΌ‹Can I stake TAO, and what does it pay?

Yes. Delegate TAO to a validator; your share of emissions depends on how that validator's subnets perform. Rewards run at varies widely by validator and by subnet β€” treat any single figure with suspicion, and the calculator on this page is prefilled with 10% so you can change it to whatever your validator or platform actually quotes. No unbonding period β€” TAO can be undelegated at any time. Staking is native to the protocol here, so you are not relying on a third party's wrapper.

οΌ‹Which TAO calculator should I use?

There are 6 on this page and they answer different questions. Start from what you are actually asking: what a past purchase would be worth now, what a position is worth today, where a leveraged position gets liquidated, or what regular buying would have produced. Each opens with the live TAO price already filled in, and every calculation runs in your browser β€” nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

οΌ‹Where does the TAO price on this page come from?

Live from CoinGecko when you press the price button, with the TAOUSDT pair on Binance as a fallback if that request fails. The request happens in your browser and carries nothing about you; if both fail the calculator keeps working with whatever figure you type in.
