About Optimism
Optimism is an optimistic rollup whose lasting contribution is the OP Stack β the codebase behind Base, World Chain and a growing set of others, collectively the Superchain. Governance is split in two: a Token House of OP holders and a Citizens' House that allocates retroactive funding to public goods. As on Arbitrum, gas is paid in ETH; OP is for governance. Its supply cap is 4,294,967,296 β 2Β³Β², a deliberate joke that happens to be a hard number.
Fees are a few cents and move with Ethereum's data costs; chains built on the OP Stack share the same economics.
OP competes directly with ARB for the same narrative, and the two tend to move together β often on the same rollup news.

Frequently asked questions
οΌHow many OP are there?
2.29 billion OP were in circulation as of 5 August 2026, against a maximum of 4.29 billion β so 53.2% of everything that will ever exist has already been issued, leaving 2.01 billion still to come. That is a large share still to arrive, and it is worth knowing on what schedule before treating the current price as the settled one.
οΌCan I stake OP?
None β OP is used for governance. That is why there is no OP staking calculator here: the tool reports rewards in units of the coin you staked, so it only covers networks that pay in that same asset. Publishing a page where the dollar figure was right and the unit was wrong would be worse than leaving it out.
οΌWhich OP calculator should I use?
There are 5 on this page and they answer different questions. Start from what you are actually asking: what a past purchase would be worth now, what a position is worth today, where a leveraged position gets liquidated, or what regular buying would have produced. Each opens with the live OP price already filled in, and every calculation runs in your browser β nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.
οΌWhere does the OP price on this page come from?
Live from CoinGecko when you press the price button, with the OPUSDT pair on Binance as a fallback if that request fails. The request happens in your browser and carries nothing about you; if both fail the calculator keeps working with whatever figure you type in.
