About Zcash

Zcash copies Bitcoin's economics β€” 21 million coins, proof-of-work, halvings roughly every four years β€” and adds shielded transactions built on zk-SNARKs. Addresses come in two kinds: transparent ones that behave like Bitcoin's, and shielded ones where amounts and parties are hidden. Because shielding is optional rather than mandatory, the share of supply actually held in the shielded pool is a metric the community watches closely.

Fees are small in absolute terms; shielded transactions are heavier to construct than transparent ones but still cost far less than an Ethereum transaction.

ZEC trades on privacy-regulation and exchange-listing news as much as on crypto beta, and has a history of long flat stretches broken by very fast repricings.

Frequently asked questions

οΌ‹How many ZEC are there?

16.78 million ZEC were in circulation as of 5 August 2026, against a maximum of 21 million β€” so 79.9% of everything that will ever exist has already been issued, leaving 4.22 million still to come. The remaining 20.1% still has to reach the market at some point, which is a slow headwind rather than an event.

οΌ‹Can I stake ZEC?

None β€” ZEC is mined. That is why there is no ZEC staking calculator here: the tool reports rewards in units of the coin you staked, so it only covers networks that pay in that same asset. Publishing a page where the dollar figure was right and the unit was wrong would be worse than leaving it out.

οΌ‹Which ZEC calculator should I use?

There are 5 on this page and they answer different questions. Start from what you are actually asking: what a past purchase would be worth now, what a position is worth today, where a leveraged position gets liquidated, or what regular buying would have produced. Each opens with the live ZEC price already filled in, and every calculation runs in your browser β€” nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

οΌ‹Where does the ZEC price on this page come from?

Live from CoinGecko when you press the price button, with the ZECUSDT pair on Binance as a fallback if that request fails. The request happens in your browser and carries nothing about you; if both fail the calculator keeps working with whatever figure you type in.
