About Filecoin
Filecoin is a decentralised storage market: clients pay to store data, and storage providers prove they are still holding it through continuous cryptographic proofs. Providers must pledge FIL as collateral against every sector they seal, and lose it if they fail those proofs β so a large share of supply is locked as working capital rather than sitting on exchanges. That collateral requirement, not staking, is the main thing to understand about FIL's supply.
Filecoin transaction fees are small; the meaningful cost in the network is the FIL a provider must lock up to offer storage in the first place.
FIL has a long history of unlock-driven pressure, and its price is closely watched against how much collateral is locked in the network.

Frequently asked questions
οΌHow many FIL are there?
815.5 million FIL were in circulation as of 5 August 2026, against a maximum of 2 billion β so 40.8% of everything that will ever exist has already been issued, leaving 1.18 billion still to come. That is a large share still to arrive, and it is worth knowing on what schedule before treating the current price as the settled one.
οΌCan I stake FIL?
No holder staking β pledging is for storage providers. That is why there is no FIL staking calculator here: the tool reports rewards in units of the coin you staked, so it only covers networks that pay in that same asset. Publishing a page where the dollar figure was right and the unit was wrong would be worse than leaving it out.
οΌWhich FIL calculator should I use?
There are 5 on this page and they answer different questions. Start from what you are actually asking: what a past purchase would be worth now, what a position is worth today, where a leveraged position gets liquidated, or what regular buying would have produced. Each opens with the live FIL price already filled in, and every calculation runs in your browser β nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.
οΌWhere does the FIL price on this page come from?
Live from CoinGecko when you press the price button, with the FILUSDT pair on Binance as a fallback if that request fails. The request happens in your browser and carries nothing about you; if both fail the calculator keeps working with whatever figure you type in.
