About Stacks

Stacks brings smart contracts to Bitcoin without changing Bitcoin, anchoring its own blocks to the Bitcoin chain through a consensus called Proof of Transfer. Miners bid actual BTC for the right to produce a Stacks block, and that BTC goes to the people who have locked their STX. That is the mechanic worth understanding: stacking STX pays a yield denominated in Bitcoin, not in the chain's own inflationary token β€” a genuinely different proposition from every other staking page on this site.

Stacks fees are paid in STX and are low, but the chain settles against Bitcoin, so finality follows Bitcoin's pace rather than a fast layer 1's.

STX is one of the purest Bitcoin-ecosystem proxies and tends to outrun BTC on the way up and fall further on the way down.

Frequently asked questions

οΌ‹Does STX have a maximum supply?

No fixed cap is published for Stacks, which is why no maximum is shown on this page β€” we leave the figure out rather than invent a denominator. Circulating supply was 1.86 billion STX as of 5 August 2026. Without a cap, the number that matters is the net issuance rate: new supply minus anything burned, as a percentage per year.

οΌ‹Can I stake STX?

Yes β€” stacking, with a Bitcoin-denominated reward. That is why there is no STX staking calculator here: the tool reports rewards in units of the coin you staked, so it only covers networks that pay in that same asset. Publishing a page where the dollar figure was right and the unit was wrong would be worse than leaving it out.

οΌ‹Which STX calculator should I use?

There are 5 on this page and they answer different questions. Start from what you are actually asking: what a past purchase would be worth now, what a position is worth today, where a leveraged position gets liquidated, or what regular buying would have produced. Each opens with the live STX price already filled in, and every calculation runs in your browser β€” nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

οΌ‹Where does the STX price on this page come from?

Live from CoinGecko when you press the price button, with the STXUSDT pair on Binance as a fallback if that request fails. The request happens in your browser and carries nothing about you; if both fail the calculator keeps working with whatever figure you type in.
